Fractional Marketing
Manager

Senior marketing leadership for growing SMEs, without the cost of a full-time hire. Fractional Marketing Manager, Fractional CMO or Fractional Marketing Director: the title matters less than the senior ownership you get, on a flexible, part-time basis.

If this sounds familiar

Your marketing grew by accident.

A new channel here. An agency there. A process someone started, then abandoned. Emails, ads and SEO all running, but no clear direction and no one really owning it. The team stays busy, the spend keeps going out, and nobody feels confident about what's actually working.

  • Scaled fast, planned later
  • Channels added reactively
  • Agencies hired tactically
  • SOPs and docs, somewhere
  • Heavy reliance on one channel

“We're doing loads, but we don't really know what's working, or why.”

What most owners tell us before they start.

The titles, explained

Fractional Marketing Manager, CMO or Director?

You'll see this role described in several ways, and the labels can be confusing. A Fractional Marketing Manager, a Fractional CMO and a Fractional Marketing Director are, for most growing SMEs, the same thing in practice: senior marketing leadership applied part-time, without a full-time salary.

The difference is mostly scope and seniority, not function. A Fractional CMO might focus on board-level strategy and budget allocation. A Fractional Marketing Manager will do strategy too, but also lead the channels that matter most right now. Some businesses simply call it outsourced marketing, or a part-time marketing manager.

Whatever the title, the principle is the same. You get experienced ownership of your marketing, aligned to commercial goals, for a fraction of the time and cost of a permanent hire.

How it works

First we align. Then we scale.

Ten steps, two phases. Click any step to see what it means.

Align · Step 01

Attract

We get clear on exactly who we're targeting, and the reasons they should care, before spending a penny on reaching them.

Align · Step 02

Leverage

We take stock of the assets, data and past wins you already have, so we build on strength instead of starting from scratch.

Align · Step 03

Ignite

We shape the message, offers and campaigns that actually move people to act.

Align · Step 04

Generate

We put a reliable way to create and track leads in place, so you can see what's coming in and from where.

Align · Step 05

Nurture

We map how leads become customers, and how those customers stay and grow in value over time.

Scale · Step 06

Systemise

We turn the work into SOPs, workflows and clear ownership, so it runs the same whoever is at the wheel.

Scale · Step 07

Clarify

We set up reporting and dashboards around the metrics that matter, so success is something you can see.

Scale · Step 08

Accelerate

We find what's already working and put more behind it, rather than chasing the next shiny thing.

Scale · Step 09

Lean

We strip out waste, duplication and busy work, so effort goes where it counts.

Scale · Step 10

Expand

Once the engine runs, we open up new channels, partnerships and territories with confidence.

FAQs

Common questions

Tap a question to see the answer. Anything not covered here, just ask.

What is a Fractional Marketing Manager?

A Fractional Marketing Manager gives you senior-level marketing leadership on a part-time basis. You get strategic direction, hands-on execution oversight and commercial accountability, without the cost or commitment of a full-time hire.

How is this different from hiring an agency?

Agencies typically execute in silos: SEO, PPC, social, email. A Fractional Marketing Manager owns the whole growth system, aligning channels, budgets, messaging and performance to your business goals, and making sure everything works together commercially.

How many days per month do you typically work with clients?

Most clients engage for between 1 and 4 days per month, depending on growth stage, complexity and internal resource. The focus is on impact, not time-filling.

What types of businesses is this best suited for?

Ambitious SMEs who:

  • Are investing in marketing but lack strategic leadership
  • Want clearer ROI and prioritisation
  • Are scaling and need structure, not just activity
  • Need a senior voice without a full-time salary

What do you actually do day-to-day?

This can include:

  • Setting growth strategy and channel priorities
  • Owning the marketing roadmap and KPIs
  • Managing agencies and freelancers
  • Auditing and improving SEO, paid media, content and CRO
  • Reporting to founders and leadership teams
  • Translating data into commercial decisions

Do you replace our existing marketing team or agencies?

No, I want to work alongside them. My role is to provide direction, alignment and performance leadership, making sure everyone is working to the same growth plan and commercial objectives.

How much does a Fractional Marketing Manager cost?

Fractional support typically ranges from a few hundred to a few thousand pounds per month, depending on scope and time needed. In most cases it is significantly less than the total cost of a full-time senior hire.
